You may or may not know that recruitment falls under the umbrella of HR. One of our clients certainly didn’t realise this until a conversation we had with them at our weekly meeting. They were explaining that they have a vacancy and are struggling with the time to sort it out. That’s where we have stepped in.

Recruitment of a new employee can seem relatively straight forward however there is a lot more to it.

We worked closely with our client before the advert was even thought about on reviewing the vacancy, ensuring the job description was current along with the person specification.  We also spoke to them about what behavioural characteristics they were looking for from the successful candidate as they were keen to assess against behaviour and attitude as well as skill and ability and what their company values were.

We then started to work on drafting the advert. At a time when the unemployment rate is at an all-time high, we wanted to make sure that we were attracting the right people to apply who would be a good fit with the company overall. We looked at the wording of the advert to get across the values of the company in order that candidates with similar values would find the role and the company attractive, (it’s not just about assessing the candidate for the role, the candidate will also be assessing the company).  The next step was to then look at options of how to market the job – social media, agency, job boards etc. Finally, we had an open discussion with the client around how the application process would work and how much or how little involvement they wanted from us.

On this specific occasion we opted for CV applications, with a covering letter with HR Elite involved in the pre screening process. We did an initial sift based on application and then some preliminary telephone interview questions. Those who were successful at this stage were then asked to complete a 5-minute video, this was really where we could asses the candidate against the behavioural criteria as well as asking them to answer a question about skill.  Those who were successful at this stage were then presented to the client for face to face (zoom) interview.

This approach is just the start to our more sophisticated recruitment and selection service.  We have been doing lots of research into this area as we know it can be a challenging area and is absolutely essential in ensuring that the right person is recruited to gel as a part of the team and have a smooth transition through the employment cycle. We feel as HR professionals we are bringing a slightly different take on it to your traditional recruitment agencies and so far, for us and our clients it seems to be working.

I’ve only touched a little on the process we took with this particular client however there are other aspects we offer such as aptitude tests, psychometric tests, assessment centres and a whole lot more.

And, of course, following on from recruitment we are then in an ideal position to help our clients with their onboarding and induction process.
